Cairns is a long way from the next list. There's no other place page within reach of this one, because the nearest capital city is a couple of hours away by plane, so what you see below is what the Far North actually has. It's a singer's town: solo vocalists, acoustic duos and singer-songwriters make up most of the page, with bands and cover bands behind them. Nearly all of them are based in Cairns itself, with a few up the range at Kuranda and out at Gordonvale and Yorkeys Knob.
That has a practical side. If you want something the local list can't offer, a ten-piece show band say, you're flying it up from Brisbane or further and paying for the flights, the freight and the night's accommodation. Most people don't, and the acts here are used to doing the whole job: ceremony on the beach, dinner set, then the party. The wet season runs roughly December to April, and any outdoor plan needs a wet-weather answer for every one of those months.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Cairns. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Palm Cove and the northern beaches are a normal Cairns job. Port Douglas is an hour up the coast road and most acts do it regularly, usually with travel as a line on the quote and sometimes a request for a room if the finish is late. Mission Beach and the Tablelands are the same conversation; say the venue and let them price the drive.
Beyond the rain, it's the humidity: guitars go out of tune, singers work harder and electronics sweat in a marquee. Local acts carry fans and covers and know which rooms are air-conditioned. Between January and March there's also the chance of a cyclone watch closing things down at short notice, so agree with the act in writing what happens if the date has to move.
With no band flying in from elsewhere to compete, Cairns bands price on the local job: how many players, how many hours, and whether the venue is in town or an hour away up the coast or on the Tablelands. The dry season, June to October, is wedding and conference time and the dear end of the year. The from-prices on this page are what Cairns bands are quoting today.
Very. Cairns hosts wedding parties and conference groups from overseas all year round, and the singers and duos on this page work those rooms. Tell the act where your guests are from and ask what they'd play; a good Cairns act has a few songs in reserve for a crowd that doesn't know Australian pub classics.
Ask every act what happens if the ceremony moves under cover with an hour's notice. Their gear, their power and where they stand all change, and a good local act will already have an answer.
A ceremony up on the Tablelands or out on the northern beaches is a real trip from town. Ask whether the quote covers the drive and the set-up time, or whether it's town rates only.
Cairns weddings mix locals, people from down south and overseas guests. A singer whose list runs from country to current pop will hold that crowd; ask what they'd play at the 9pm slump.
