About
Lauren Butler is a folk singer for hire in Cairns, QLD.
Two different shows, same musician. For kids, Lauren Butler runs interactive sets built on singalongs and movement songs, the ones that work every time: Wheels on the Bus, The Lion Sleeps Tonight, Shake Your Sillies Out, Kookaburra, You Are My Sunshine. Good for libraries, schools, festivals and vacation care. For everyone else, she plays upbeat country, folk and bluegrass, solo, or as a duo with banjo, slide guitar or fiddle, or a trio with harmonies for a fuller festival sound. Sets run 45 minutes, with one to three of them depending on the format. She can play acoustically in a small room, or plug in for a bigger crowd. All she really needs is a flat three by three metre space and something soft for the kids to sit on.
The show
Depends who's watching. For kids, Lauren Butler runs an interactive set built on singalongs and movement songs, and it suits libraries, schools, festivals and community days. For a general crowd it's upbeat country, folk and bluegrass on acoustic strings. Sets run 45 minutes. Solo is one set for kids or up to two for all ages, the duo adds banjo or slide guitar, and the trio brings a fiddle and harmonies for a fuller festival sound. Markets, pubs, breweries and heritage events all work.
On the day
A flat space of three metres by three, or bigger, plus a small table and chair. For children's shows you'll want mats, rugs or carpet so the kids and their parents can sit comfortably. Power if a bigger group needs amplifying, though small rooms can be done acoustically. Outdoors, shade or shelter is essential. Allow around fifteen minutes to bump in and sound check for a kids' set, or an hour for the duo and trio.
Performance options
Start with solo and build from there. On her own, that's one 45 minute set for a children's show, or up to two for an all ages crowd. Add banjo, slide guitar or fiddle and it becomes a duo, one to three sets across a three hour booking. The trio brings all of that plus harmonies for a richer festival sound, same set structure. It means you can match the line-up to the size of the room, whether that's a school, a market, a pub, a private function or a heritage day.
