Nobody on the Gold Coast is short of entertainers. The list below is one of the longest on this site, and it runs from wedding singers and duos to cover bands, DJs, tribute shows and the comedians and speakers who work the conference hotels. Your problem here isn't finding an act, it's cutting the field down to five you'd actually put in front of your guests.
Where an act is based tells you more than the trade label does. Most are listed simply as Gold Coast, but you'll see Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads and Varsity Lakes named, and a group across the border in Tweed Heads, which is next door for anyone marrying at Coolangatta. Brisbane acts work the coast as well, and the run down the M1 is short enough that they don't always charge for it. Ask.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Gold Coast. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Send an enquiry with the date, the venue, the number of guests, the length of set you want and, most useful of all, who's in the room. Gold Coast comedians work the conference hotels along the beachfront all year, so they're used to a corporate crowd and a running order that slips. Ask for a clip of them in front of a seated dinner audience, not a club; the two are different skills.
Ceremony work is short, so what you're paying for is the set-up, the travel and the skill, not the minutes. A singer covering the ceremony alone is one price; the same singer staying for the canapes and then playing the reception is another, and the second is usually the better deal per hour. Burleigh to Coolangatta is nothing for travel, Brisbane to the coast might be. The from-prices on this page are what the coast's ceremony acts are quoting today.
All the time; the border runs through a suburb, not a gap. What trips people up is daylight saving in summer, when a Tweed act and a Coolangatta venue are an hour apart on the clock, so write the state beside the start time on the booking. Tweed Heads has its own page too if your venue is on the New South Wales side.
Sometimes, but not because Brisbane is cheaper. Brisbane has a bigger pool of cover bands and jazz bands, so for a specific style you may find more choice there, and the M1 is short enough that some acts don't add travel for the coast. Compare a Brisbane quote with a local one for the same night before deciding; a Burleigh band finishing at midnight in Burleigh has no highway to think about.
Late November is a hard time for anything around Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach: hotels are full, roads are slow and DJs in particular are spoken for. Acts will still take a wedding or a work party then, but they'll ask about parking and load-in more carefully than usual. Burleigh, the hinterland and the northern end are a lot calmer that fortnight.
Start with the job. A wedding singer for the ceremony is a different search to a cover band for the reception, and this page has plenty of both. Then look at where the act lives; a Burleigh duo playing a Burleigh wedding has no travel to put in the price.
Late November is Schoolies, and the school holidays follow straight after, so venues and acts around Surfers and Broadbeach are stretched from then until late January. A spring or autumn date gives you more of the list and a straighter answer.
The busier the market, the more polish on the promo. Ask for footage of a real function, and pay attention to how the act handles the room between songs. With this much choice on the coast, that's what separates the names.
