Three acts sit in the Riverland: two soloists based in Berri and a country singer at Loxton, across the river. After them the list jumps to a big band at Nuriootpa in the Barossa, then a mentalist, a singer, a party band, a karaoke host, a cover band and a duo strung along the northern edge of Adelaide from Gawler to Tea Tree Gully. Nothing else is under two hours.
Which makes the Riverland the plainest page on this site: book the locals for anything a soloist or a singer can carry, a houseboat party at Renmark, a fortieth on the lawn at Barmera, a ceremony at a vineyard near Loxton. For a band, a mentalist or anything with a show, you're bringing it up the Sturt Highway from the Barossa or Gawler, and every quote should carry the fuel, the drive and a night in Berri. Mildura is as close as the Barossa and isn't on this list yet; it may be by the time you read this.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Berri. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Some do, mostly for weddings and corporate nights with a budget for the trip, and the ones on this page from Gawler and Tea Tree Gully have listed the Riverland as in range. Count on the drive both ways and a motel, and ask them to arrive with time to spare rather than play straight off the highway. Give more notice than you would in the city.
For the Berri soloists it's hours and gear, and a houseboat or riverbank set needs battery power, which is worth mentioning. One of them shows a from-price on the card and that's the local starting point; an act from the Barossa or Gawler is quoting the Sturt Highway before they quote the music. Long weekends bring the houseboats out, so those are the dates to ask about early.
Not on this list yet. The nearest is the big band at Nuriootpa, which is a horn section and a lot of people to move, then the party band and cover band around Gawler. A Riverland reception wanting a band is a travel booking, so ask two of them and compare the travel lines, not just the fee.
Renmark, Berri, Loxton, Barmera and Waikerie are strung along the river, and Waikerie to Renmark is the best part of an hour. Put the actual town in the enquiry so a Barossa act can price the right distance.
A band from Gawler is five people, a trailer and a two-and-a-half-hour drive each way. Have the fee, the drive and the night's stay quoted separately, so you can see how much of the total is the Sturt Highway.
Houseboats, riverbank lawns and the lake at Barmera all mean battery power, a short set-up and no stage. The two Berri soloists are built for that; a big band needs a hall and a power supply.
