Two acts call Benalla home, a country band and a cover band, and between them they say what the local work is: the pub, the footy club presentation, the fortieth in a shed out past Baddaginnie. Everything else is a highway trip: Wangaratta supplies the next six, cover bands mostly, with a jazz band, a singer-songwriter and the only DJ in the nearest ten, and Shepparton sends two cover bands from an hour west. Don't read a card distance as a local act; only the first two are.
Which makes Benalla a bands page more than anything. Cover bands, party bands and wedding bands outnumber every other trade within reach, most of them from Shepparton, so for a four-piece at a reception on the lake or a club night you'll have choice, just not from next door. The scarce trades run the other way, one DJ, one jazz band and hardly any soloists, so if a DJ is the plan, that's the act to lock first.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Benalla. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Not based in town at the moment; the nearest is at Wangaratta, about forty minutes away, and it's the only DJ in the nearest ten. Shepparton has a few more if that one's taken. A few of the cover bands will play a playlist through their PA in the breaks, which is often all a wedding really needs from a DJ.
Almost every band on this page is driving from Wangaratta or Shepparton, so the travel is part of the price and it's worth asking for it as its own line. After that it's the usual: how many in the band, how many sets, and whether it's a Saturday in spring. Their from-prices are on the cards and a Benalla booking will sit a bit above them.
All the time. Benalla is on the way between the two towns, and both circuits treat it as home turf, so you'll get a quote with a travel line rather than a no. For a reception finishing late, a Shepparton band may ask about a room; a Wangaratta one usually just drives.
Forty minutes up the Hume, and it's where the jazz band, the DJ and most of the duos and cover bands are. The Wangaratta page shows them with their own distances; for a Benalla job add the drive and ask about it.
An hour each way on the Midland Highway is a real cost for a band with a trailer, and the Shepparton acts will put it on the quote. Their page is the deeper bench for cover bands if the Wangaratta ones are taken.
Benalla sits on the road to Mansfield and Mount Buller, and acts based here get asked for winter weddings up there. If your date is a July Saturday, assume the two locals have been asked already.
