About
Canvas by Design is an event services business for hire in Perth, WA.
Guests watch the painting take shape over the course of the reception, which makes the artwork part of the entertainment as much as the keepsake. Canvas by Design paints live at weddings and events around Perth and will travel, working in professional acrylics on canvas for up to seven hours on the day, then finishing the piece back in the studio before it's varnished for the long haul. Canvases range up to 66 by 86 centimetres, with recognisable facial features an option on the larger works. Setup and pack-down are included, and the only thing needed from the venue is access to power. At the end of the night, the party is still there on the canvas.
The show
The painting happens in front of your guests, which turns it into part of the night rather than something that arrives in the post later. You watch it build across the reception. Materials are chosen to last, professional acrylics on canvas, so this isn't a novelty that fades in a few years on a wall. Punctual, experienced, and used to working around a room full of people. Perth and surrounds is home ground, and travel further out is possible.
On the day
Power is all that's needed, for the iPad and the lamp that run through the whole event. That's genuinely the only requirement. Setting up and cleaning up are both included, so nobody on your side is dealing with an easel at midnight. Worth choosing a spot with a decent view of the room, and out of the main walking line, so the artist can see what's happening without guests squeezing past.
Performance options
Two things on offer. Live painting on canvas, in sizes running from around 50 by 60 centimetres up to 66 by 86, with up to seven hours of painting on the day and studio time afterwards to finish the piece properly before varnishing. Recognisable facial features come in on the larger canvases. Or live guest illustration, where people come up to have a photo taken and get a Copic marker portrait on heavy paper in a sleeve to take home, usually waist up and up to two people per illustration.
