Wasted Years are a rock and pop duo on the Gold Coast, originally from New Zealand, and the gear is bigger than a duo usually bothers with. Real rock voices, real volume. The list runs Bon Jovi, Queen, Pearl Jam, Def Leppard, Foo Fighters, Tom Petty, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Nirvana, Nightwish, Halestorm, Fleetwood Mac, Divinyls, Blondie, Pat Benatar, Joan Jett. They prefer long stretches, often an hour and a half to two hours straight, and they mingle with the crowd on the short breaks. Requests are fine if they know the song, and they know a lot of them. Travel is no obstacle. Weddings, birthdays, pubs and clubs. They bring everything, right down to their own seating.
The show
Easy company, and willing to have a go at requests, though they'll say plainly that nobody knows every song ever written. Their preference is to play in long stretches, an hour and a half to two hours at a time where the venue allows it, taking short breaks and spending them out among the crowd rather than backstage. Later finishes are fine and cost nothing extra, and a shorter night is no problem either if that's what's on offer.
On the day
Five metres by two is comfortable, though they can compress into less if the room forces it. Outdoors, they have to be under cover. Everything else is theirs, right down to the chairs they sit on.
