About
GK is a musical duo for hire in Bribie Island North, QLD.
Greg handles guitar, harmonica and vocals. Kaaren sings and plays percussion. Between them GK Duo have more than thirty years each of playing, in bands and duos here and overseas, and the last couple of years have gone into building a repertoire that actually works together. The sound sits in soft classic rock with pop from both the old and new ends: Beatles, Neil Young, Crowded House, Cat Stevens, Alanis Morissette, Missy Higgins, Vance Joy, Lorde, Teddy Swims, Amy Winehouse. Based at Bribie Island North, they bring their own amplification, microphones and lights, and turn up early enough to be ready before guests are.
The show
Greg and Kaaren turn up with time to spare, get the gear standing and the levels right, and are ready well before the first guest wonders where the music is. That's most of what a booker actually wants from a duo. The playing sits in soft classic rock and pop, so the Beatles and Neil Young sit next to Vance Joy and Teddy Swims without the room noticing a gear change. Between them there's over sixty years of stage time, in bands and duos, here and overseas.
On the day
Greg and Kaaren arrive self-contained. Amplification, microphones and the lights all travel with the duo, so the venue side of it stays short: point them at somewhere to plug in and that's the job done. Nothing else gets asked of you on the day.
