About
Sam King is a magician for hire in Adelaide, SA.
Sam King started on Adelaide's streets and won the Australian Street Entertainment Championships in 2014. Since then he's taken "Best Magic" at Adelaide Fringe in 2022 and again in 2024, plus the "One to Watch" award in 2022. The comedy is not a side note either. He made the finals of the UK competition So You Think You're Funny. These days he runs Adelaide Magic Theatre, where the shows are deliberately small and close up. He works roving through a crowd, on a stage, or both across one night, and the material shifts depending on who's in the room. Holds a current Working with Children Check. Setup needs are light, so most venues suit.
Watch
The show
Close up magic with comedy running through it. Sam works the trick and the talk together, so an audience gets a story alongside the moment where they cannot work out what just happened. The material is chosen for the people in front of him, which is why the same performer suits a corporate dinner and a birthday party. He turns up when he says he will, and the show is the one you booked.
On the day
Sam's setup needs are light, which is why he fits into venues that would defeat a bigger act. What he needs depends on the format: roving through a crowd, a stage show, or both across one night, and how many people are in the room. Sort that out when you book and the rest falls into place.
Performance options
There are three ways to have Sam at your event. Roving magic works through the crowd up close, suited to around eighty guests and scalable past that. A stage or festival show puts magic, illusion and comedy in front of everyone at once, at whatever size the room is. Or combine the two, roving early and a stage show later, which is the fullest version of the night.
