Nearly everything on the first screen of this page is in Katoomba or gives the Blue Mountains as its address, which the map pins right here in town. A cover band, a jazz band, a wedding singer, two wedding duos, another duo, a trio, a hula hoop act and a tarot reader, then a singer from Wentworth Falls a few minutes down the hill. For a town this size, that's an unusually interesting list.
It's also a list with a shape. Katoomba does a lot of parties that aren't weddings, the festival weekends, the long weekends of Sydney people in the pubs, the hen's groups in the guesthouses, and the tarot reader and the hula hoop act make more sense in that light than they would on a Penrith page. The wedding and cover bands further down are western Sydney's, driving up from Penrith and Erskine Park, and they're the ones to call when the dance floor needs a bigger sound.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Katoomba. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Western Sydney bands come up regularly and treat it as a long local job; inner-city bands treat Katoomba as a trip, with the drive, the fog and a late finish all on the price. The mountains' own acts on the first screen are the way round that. Try them first and keep the Penrith list for a bigger band.
A hula hoop act and a tarot reader sit on the first screen, and further down there's more of that kind of thing from the Penrith end. For a festival stall, a market day or a party with a lot of standing around, those acts earn their fee in a way a second singer wouldn't. Say the age of the crowd; a hoop act for kids is a different show from one for adults.
A jazz band prices on how many players and how long, then on whether they're background for dinner or the whole night. A trio for a two-hour lunch is the low end, a full band with a singer through to midnight is the top, and Katoomba's own jazz band has no travel to add where a Sydney one does. Look at the from-prices on this page for what's being asked today.
The Blue Mountains page pins to Katoomba, so its list and this one are nearly identical. Read either; if your venue is at Blackheath or Mount Victoria, add fifteen to twenty-five minutes to every distance on the cards.
A jazz band in a Katoomba guesthouse lounge in July is a lovely thing, and a cold one. Brass and strings drift out of tune in the cold, so a warm room is as much for the music as the guests.
For a fortieth or a hen's weekend up the mountains, a reader working a corner of the room keeps people busy between the food and the music. Give them a quiet table and a bit of light and let guests find them.
