Gordonvale is a cane town, a quarter of an hour south of Cairns on the Bruce Highway with Walsh's Pyramid standing over it, and a singer-songwriter lives there. Nobody else on the first screen does. The next nine give Cairns or Cairns City as their address, singers, singer-songwriters and duos with a fire show in the middle, and they'll drive down the highway for a Gordonvale job without much thought. What you won't find close is a band, and I'd say that's the first thing to know about this page.
The other thing is the Gillies. Gordonvale is the bottom of the Gillies Range road to the Tablelands, and the Mareeba and Kuranda acts that appear further down the list are the far side of it, an hour of bends away rather than the drive the straight-line figure suggests. For a wedding in a shed on a cane farm or a party at the hall, the practical pool is the Cairns singers and duos, and the season to ask early is the dry, when the same acts are wanted up and down the coast.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Gordonvale. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Gordonvale is a routine job for a Cairns act, close enough that travel rarely turns up on the quote. Babinda and further south toward Innisfail start to add time, and a midnight finish down there might bring a request for a room. Say the town and the finish time and the answer will be a straight one.
A ceremony-only set is the small job and the whole day, from vows through to a dance set, is the big one, with hours the main lever and the dry season the busy one. For Gordonvale the drive from Cairns is short enough that it seldom moves the figure. The singers on this page each show a starting price where they've given one, and that's today's number.
It can, and a Cairns fire act is on the first screen here. The venue needs a clear, non-flammable area away from the cane, the shed and the guests, and in the dry the property owner may have their own rules about open flame. Ask the act what space and safety clearance they need before you put it on the running order.
The singer-songwriter based in town is the only act that doesn't drive in. If the job suits a solo act, send that enquiry before the Cairns names, then use the Cairns list for a second and third option.
Cane country is flat, wet in the wet and hot all year, and a shed reception has tin above and no walls. Tell the act it's a farm and whether there's power, and ask what they do when the rain comes in sideways.
Mareeba and Kuranda are on the list because they're inside the circle, but the range sits between. Unless the act says it plays the southern side of Cairns regularly, treat those two as a longer trip than the card suggests.
