One road runs up Currumbin Valley, following the creek past the farms and the rock pools towards the range, and every act on this page comes up it. A Latin band is the exception, based in the valley, and next valley over at Tallebudgera there's a pianist who sings. The rest is the southern Gold Coast driving in: a wedding band at Currumbin Waters, a DJ at Palm Beach and another at Reedy Creek, a fire performer, a Burleigh singer-songwriter, a disco band from Coolangatta and a fairy from Tweed Heads, with the city's reviewed cover band furthest out. By the time a band reaches the top of the valley it's been on that road a while, and it will price the trip home in the dark.
The valley is where the coast goes to get married under trees. Properties with a paddock, a creek crossing and a shed for the reception are the venue here, and they come with what farm venues come with: a long drive, a gate someone has to open, no mobile signal past a certain bend, and summer storms that arrive over the range without notice. A Latin band on a lawn at a long lunch is a fine use of the local act. For the night, the wedding band a few minutes down at Currumbin Waters is the closest full band, and the DJs either side of the valley are used to a marquee running off a generator.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Currumbin Valley. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
The ones based down the hill at Currumbin, Currumbin Waters and Palm Beach usually don't; the valley is their local patch. Acts pinned to the city or up at Burleigh may add a line, and the fair version covers the late drive out along an unlit road rather than the distance. Ask for it separately so you can compare a valley quote with a beach one.
For the afternoon, very. The valley act plays the kind of music a long lunch under trees wants, and it gets people up without needing a dance floor and a light show. For the late part of the night most couples still want a covers band or a DJ, both of which live minutes down the road, so treat the Latin set as the first act rather than the whole night.
Power decides more of it than the drive. A marquee in a paddock has no mains, so the DJ brings a generator or asks you to hire one, and that's a line on the quote before hours and lights. The DJs at Palm Beach and Reedy Creek are both a short run from the valley. Each shows a from-price on its card where one is listed, and both will quote in writing once they know the property.
Maps lose the signal partway up the valley and gates are easy to miss in the dark. Send the act a written route from the highway, the gate number and the phone of someone at the property.
Summer afternoons in the valley can turn from still to a downpour in minutes. Have an under-cover position for the band decided before the day, not during it.
Most southern acts price the valley as a short drive in and a slow one out. If travel appears on the quote, ask what it covers; a Currumbin or Palm Beach act should have little, a city act more.
