About
Magic Surge is a children's magician for hire in Melbourne, VIC.
Live animals are the thing that separates this Melbourne act from every other kids magician. Rabbits, guinea pigs and doves appear through the show, usually two or three of them, and how many depends on the length of the booking and the venue, because their welfare decides that rather than the running sheet. Around the animals sits comedy magic built on slapstick and a dry, slightly wacky sense of humour, with adults pulled in as often as the kids so nobody sits out. Shows suit ages three to twelve. The longer packages add bunny patting and photo time at the end, which is reliably the moment the kids remember, and a balloon sculpture for the birthday child. Birthdays, schools, kindergartens, corporate days and family events. Set-up takes up about a metre and a half.
The show
The humour is wacky and dry, built on slapstick, gags and tricks, and adults get pulled into it as much as the kids so nobody ends up sitting at the edge watching their phone. Live animals are the other half of it. Birds, rabbits and guinea pigs appear through the show, usually two or three of them, and how many turns up depends on how long the booking runs and what the venue is like, because their welfare decides that rather than the running order. If animals don't suit your event, there's a version without them.
Performance options
Four shapes to pick from. The 40 minute show is comedy magic with kids and adults joining in, appearances and disappearances, and the live pets, and that one stops there. The 45 minute version adds patting and photo time with the bunny at the end, which is reliably the bit the kids talk about afterwards. The hour-long premium show has all of that plus a custom balloon sculpture for the birthday child. Or take the combo: half an hour of magic with the bunny patting, then half an hour of balloon twisting for up to twelve kids, with dogs, swords, unicorns, butterflies and dinosaurs among the usual requests. Bigger group than twelve? Extra balloon time can be added in half hour blocks.
