The Mik Maks

Forty five minutes of singing and dancing aimed squarely at kids aged one to eight, and the little ones tend to lose their minds over it. The Mik Maks are a family band: brothers Al and Joel, Joel's daughter Ava, and Drums the Panda, whose drum solo is the bit everyone talks about afterwards. Songs carry actual stories and positive messages rather than just noise. Set lengths bend to fit your event. They'll also theme the show for Christmas, Halloween, or a farm and nursery rhyme version pitched at one to three year olds. Recent stages include Adelaide Fringe, St Kilda Festival, a Geelong Cats game day and big carols events.

Five metres by four is the smallest performance area that works. The Mik Maks own several different PA systems and pick the one that suits the room, so a dry hire venue is no problem: they'll bring basic lighting, the PA and a technician with them. Their rigs go up indoors or outdoors, as long as an outdoor spot is covered. If your event is supplying its own production, ask for the stage plot and sound specs and they'll send them through.

How many of them turn up depends on what the day needs. You can have the full band, or scale it back as far as a duo, with sizes in between. Theming changes things too, so a Christmas booking and a nursery rhyme show for toddlers won't be put together the same way. They'll talk it through with you first and work out which shape actually fits the event before anything is locked in.
