About
Sam is a caricaturist for hire in Sydney, NSW.
Sam has been drawing caricatures professionally since 2012, at corporate gigs, weddings, awards nights, birthdays and product launches. He arrives fifteen minutes early, finds his spot, and then draws for the whole booking, roughly one face every five minutes. Guests keep their drawing. He tells jokes while he works, mostly to settle people who've never sat for a portrait before, and the style leans warm rather than cruel unless someone specifically asks for the sharper version. He works roaming or from a fixed spot, and he's self contained. All he needs is a dry patch with decent light, ideally not right beside the speakers. Holds a Working with Children Check. Minimum two hour booking, and November and December fill up early.
Watch
The show
Sam turns up fifteen minutes early, finds out where you want him, and then draws for the length of the booking. Roughly one face every five minutes, and each guest keeps their drawing. Worth knowing: he doesn't run the queue. Guests usually write their names on a list and sort the order out between themselves, which frees him up to keep drawing rather than playing traffic warden.
On the day
A dry spot with enough light to work by, out of the rain. Ideally not directly in front of the PA, since Sam chats with people while he draws and that's hard to do beside a speaker.
Performance options
Sam works to whatever the occasion calls for, and there is room to shape the job before the day. If you want your logo printed on the card stock the guests take home, say so and it gets arranged. The same goes for a pre-drawn portrait on A2 of the guest of honour, or the couple, ready before anyone arrives. Those are the two requests that come up most, but the door is open on ideas generally. Sketch out what you have in mind when you enquire and Sam will tell you what is possible.
