David Babore Illustrations is a caricaturist for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Twelve to fourteen faces an hour, drawn live in front of whoever is queueing up next. Dave is a Brisbane cartoonist and illustrator who works weddings, corporate nights, work functions, theme events and weekend markets, and he has done the Royal Easter Show. The drawing style is clean and quick. Each one goes onto thick glossy paper with good markers, then into a zip-lock bag so a spilled drink late in the night doesn't ruin it. Digital caricatures are an option too. And the drawing itself is only half of it, because guests tend to gather round and watch the next portrait appear. He brings his own gear. All he asks for is decent light and somewhere out of the cold.

The show
Getting drawn is only part of it. The rest is the audience that forms around the table, because people stay to watch the next face appear line by line, and the reactions when a caricature lands are half the entertainment. Expect somewhere around twelve to fourteen guests through the queue each hour. Each drawing goes onto thick glossy paper in good markers, then into a zip-lock bag, so it survives the rest of the night and the trip home. Digital caricatures are an option if you'd rather have files than paper. And guests walk away with something they'll actually keep.
On the day
Dave turns up with his own gear, so the venue side is simple. He needs a decent light source, which matters more for detailed line work than most people realise, and he needs to be somewhere that isn't freezing. Cold hands and fine pen work don't get along. An indoor spot, or a covered and heated area if you're outdoors, is all it takes.
