About

Varley Strings is a string quartet for hire in Perth, WA.

Two, three or four string players are available through Varley Strings in Perth. Their arrangements draw from classical music and contemporary songs, giving you a choice between familiar concert pieces and music guests might know from elsewhere. The ensemble size can change with the occasion. Live strings remain the focus, from the smaller duo through to a full quartet.

Watch

The show

Varley Strings will match the group to the occasion. That might be a single player, a duo, a trio or the full quartet, and electric string instruments are on the table too when the event wants something with a bit more edge than a purely classical sound. Tell them what the day looks like and how big the room is, and they'll suggest the combination that fits.

On the day

Playing outdoors means the instruments need cover: a permanent roof, a marquee or a commercial umbrella that keeps off sun, rain and anything blowing about. It's a condition of any outdoor booking, so raise it early if your ceremony is on a lawn. The musicians take a ten minute break after every hour, and those breaks can be timed to sit under speeches or other formalities. Each player needs an armless chair set in position, unless you've asked in writing for them to stand, and about a square metre of floor space.

Performance options

Four sizes to choose from. Solo string is a single violin or cello. The duo is the pick for a small, close setting where a bigger group would crowd the room. The trio is the popular middle option. And the full string quartet is the statement piece, the one they'd steer you towards for a grand wedding or a large formal event.
