About
Steve Steel is a singer-songwriter for hire in Melbourne, VIC.
Bowie, Prince, Queen and the Rolling Stones make up the bones of Steve Steel's set, with chilled ballads to balance the swampy, stomping side of it. He released an album of originals in late March 2026 called Let It Roll, which has picked up more than 12,000 streams. Solo is the standard booking. Add an upright bass and it becomes a duo that looks as good as it sounds in a winery or a beer garden, and a drummer makes it a trio. He can handle MC duties on the night too. Melbourne based, self-sufficient with PA and lights, and easy to work alongside a run sheet. He needs a power point and not much else.
The show
Steve Steel arrives, sets himself up and gets on with it. PA and stage lights come in the van, so the room is lit and mixed by the same person who plays it, and there is nobody else to brief. On the night he works to whatever plan the venue or the organiser has already made, which is worth knowing if there are speeches, a cake or a first dance sitting in the middle of the music. Ask him to move a start time and he moves it.
Performance options
Solo is the standard shape. The other option is to add an upright bass player, which turns it into a duo and changes the look as much as the sound, one big wooden instrument in the corner of a winery lawn or a beer garden. Weddings are the most common reason people ask for that version. Either way the repertoire stays the same, so it is a question of how much you want filling the space.
Song list
Classic Rock, Bowie, Rolling Stones, Queen, etc and chilled out ballads.
