About
Ethan Scholz is a singer-songwriter for hire in Melbourne, VIC.
Acoustic covers and originals, a beat off a loop pedal, and sometimes a backing track running through Ableton. Ethan Scholz swaps between acoustic and electric guitar depending on how lively the room wants it, and his background covers rock festival material, acoustic ballads and classical theatre training. His current setlist lives on a public Spotify playlist, and he'll learn requests given enough notice. Setup is small: a wall socket, room for the looper, two speakers, a guitar and a mic. Melbourne based.
The show
Acoustic covers and his own songs, with a beat coming off a loop pedal or sometimes a backing track underneath. He likes a lively show, so the guitar switches between acoustic and electric depending on where the room's headed, and playback elements fill in the rest. It's one person making more noise than one person usually does.
On the day
A wall socket, plus floor space for the rig: a Boss RC-300 looper, a pair of speakers, guitar and microphone. Some shows run Ableton Live as well, and when they do he'll bring music stands and a stool to hold the devices. Either way the footprint stays compact enough for a corner of a room.
