About

Mad Collective Connection (MCC) is a reggae band for hire in Gold Coast, QLD.

Mad Collective Connection are a Gold Coast reggae band whose core five come from Sierra Leone, Scotland and Jamaica. Mystic fronts on vocals and works the crowd, Dom brings the bass vocals and a James Brown swagger, Zodiac lays down the guitar skank that holds reggae together, Abi keeps the bass steady and swinging, and Stanley runs sound and lighting. Two published albums give them close to two hours of original material, with a library of more than 250 songs behind that, and when a crowd wants the familiar stuff they'll turn in a set of the Bob Marley classics. The line-up scales up or down to fit the venue. Their own desk, PA and lighting handle rooms of around 250, and on bigger stages they'd rather run through the house system. Setup takes about an hour.

The show

Two published albums gives them close to two hours of their own music, and behind that sits a library of more than 250 original songs. When a crowd wants something they already know, they'll turn in a set of the best known Bob Marley material. The core is five: Mystic out front on vocals working the crowd, Dom on bass vocals with a James Brown swagger, Zodiac laying down the guitar skank that holds reggae together, Abi keeping the bass steady and swinging, and Stanley on the desk running sound and lights. Stanley's desk also lets him bring in studio parts like trumpet and synth over the top of the live playing.

On the day

They travel light and adjust to the room. Their own desk, PA and lighting handle audiences of around 250, which covers most function rooms and pub gigs. On a bigger stage they'd rather patch their desk into whatever house system is already there, and they will where it's possible. Setup takes about an hour from arrival. Tell them what the space is like beforehand and they'll bring the right amount of gear rather than everything they own.

Performance options

Five is the format they prefer and the one that sounds most like the records. From there it moves either way. A small venue can have it stripped right back to the two singers, which still works because the desk carries the rest. A bigger stage can have extra musicians brought in, with live drums and synth the usual additions when someone asks for them. Originals, the Bob Marley set, or a mix of the two is up to you.
