About
Capt. Rod Lovell is a motivational speaker for hire in Victor Harbor, SA.
Forty-six seconds. That's how long Captain Rod Lovell had between an engine failing on take-off from Sydney in 1994 and ditching his DC-3, and all 25 people on board survived. Then comes the stranger half of the story: the Civil Aviation Authority responded by suspending his licence, and he has spent the decades since writing a book and fighting for vindication. It all happened 15 years before Sully made the same manoeuvre famous. Rod tells the story in a presentation of around 45 minutes with questions welcomed afterwards, and he's appeared on Weekend Sunrise and plenty of television and radio since. Based at Victor Harbor in South Australia, he suits after-dinner spots and any audience that likes a true story with teeth.

The show
The presentation Rod prefers runs about 45 minutes, and he opens the floor to questions afterwards. That question time tends to be the part people remember, because the story raises plenty and audiences want to ask about the seconds, the decisions and everything that followed. Suits an after dinner slot, a conference session or any audience that would rather hear something true than something motivational.
On the day
There's a PowerPoint that runs alongside the talk, so a screen and a projector are what he'd like the venue to have. He carries the presentation on a USB and brings his own laser pointer, and he can bring a laptop as well if yours isn't easy to plug in. So the technical side is largely covered at his end. Just confirm the screen when you're locking in the room.
