About
World of Wonders is a magician for hire in Melbourne, VIC.
Lachlan Wilde builds magic shows for children, and World of Wonders is the current one. It leans on visual magic and comedy, with a lot of room for kids to get involved and do some of the magic themselves. Three versions exist. The children's party show runs an hour. The school version is aimed at book week, end of term and anything that needs a day of surprise and storytelling. And there's a calm conjuring show tailored to audiences with physical or intellectual disabilities, built at a gentler pace. Setup takes 15 minutes from arrival. If you're going outdoors, keep the performance area out of direct sun and have a wet weather backup, because Melbourne is Melbourne. Insured, with a Working With Children Check.
Watch
The show
Lachlan Wilde built World of Wonders to leave room for the children in it. The magic is visual, the comedy runs through it, and there are constant chances for kids in the audience to get involved and do some of the magic themselves. It's less a performance to be watched than a world to be let into, and every child gets a turn at feeling like the interesting one in the room.
On the day
From the moment he arrives at your place, it's fifteen minutes until the show is ready to go. Outdoors on a sunny day, keep the performance area out of direct sunlight and make sure the kids have sunscreen on and water nearby. And have a backup indoors. Melbourne weather does what it likes, and a wet weather plan made in advance beats one made at short notice.
Performance options
Children's parties get an hour, with the house turned into somewhere strange and magical for the birthday child. Schools can book it as a day of surprise and storytelling, which suits book week or an end of term treat. There's a version made for groups with physical or intellectual disabilities: a calm conjuring show, gentler in pace, suitable for people with sensory issues, so everyone gets to the wonder at their own speed. Corporate family days and company events with children present are covered too. And if your idea isn't on that list, it's worth asking. He's performed in an aquarium, in shopping centres, on the beach and in art galleries, so unusual venues aren't a problem.
