About
Puppetrix is a magician for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Cheeky puppet characters and interactive magic, mixed into one show. Puppetrix works birthday parties, fetes and festivals, childcare centres, schools and shopping centres around Brisbane. The birthday party show runs 45 minutes; the festival and shopping centre version is 30. There are also Laughter and Learning shows written for childcare centres and schools, and roving puppets with a puppet theatre if the format suits better. About 2 by 2 metres of space is enough, with room for kids to sit out front. They bring their own gear, though for a big festival stage they may want to plug into the venue's sound. Blue card held, and Squidge the rabbit has a full permit.
Watch
The show
Puppets and magic in the same show, which is a smarter combination than it sounds, because the puppets do the comedy while the magic keeps them guessing. The characters are cheeky enough to get the adults laughing too. Kids get pulled into it rather than sat watching, so expect noise. There's a rabbit called Squidge. The birthday party version runs forty five minutes and the shopping centre and festival version is thirty, and both are built to hold a young audience for that whole stretch without losing the room halfway.
On the day
Around two metres square is enough performing space, with clear floor in front of that for the children to sit on. They arrive with everything they need for a standard show, so no equipment hire on your end. The exception is a big festival stage, where they may want to run through the venue's sound system instead of their own. If that's your set up, mention it early so it can be arranged with your production people.
Performance options
The birthday party and function show runs forty five minutes of magic and puppets together. There's a thirty minute version built for festivals and shopping centres, where crowds turn over and you want a tighter show that restarts through the day. For childcare centres and schools there are the Laughter and Learning shows, which carry a message inside the comedy. And if a seated show doesn't suit your event at all, roving puppets and a puppet theatre are the other way to do it.
