About

Luke is a magician for hire in Melbourne, VIC.

Luke covers a lot of ground for one performer. Fifteen years in, he does roving magic that moves group to group using objects already sitting on the table, stage magic for seated rooms, full illusion shows, water escapes, fire performance and balloon twisting. Collingwood and St Kilda football clubs, Crown Casino, Kryal Castle and Castrol have all booked him, alongside multiple sold out shows in Victoria. The sleight of hand and mentalism have won national awards. Practical detail matters here because the formats differ so much: roving needs ten minutes and no floor space, stage magic needs half an hour and a couple of metres, and an illusion show is a two to three hour build with a crew of up to five. Fire performance needs the audience two metres back. Every booking wants a car spot near the load-in.

The show

Luke has been doing this fifteen years and the range is unusual for one performer. Roving magic moves group to group using whatever is already sitting on the table in front of your guests. Stage magic is the seated version, and it scales up into a full illusion show. Then there's fire performance, water escapes and balloon twisting on top. His sleight of hand and mentalism have won national awards. Collingwood and St Kilda football clubs, Crown Casino, Kryal Castle and Castrol have all booked him, and he's sold out multiple shows around Victoria. What you get through the planning is straight answers and someone who turns up when he said he would.

On the day

Every booking needs a car spot near the entry so gear moves in and out easily. After that it depends on the format. Roving takes ten minutes and no floor space. Stage magic wants thirty minutes and two metres by one, PA and mic check included. An illusion show is a two to three hour build on at least five metres by two, audience five metres back, crew of up to five. Fire needs thirty minutes prep, the audience two metres clear, high ceilings indoors or winds under 15 km an hour outside. Balloon twisting, fifteen minutes.

Performance options

Roving magic runs anywhere from a quarter of an hour up to two hours, so it can fill a cocktail stretch or cover most of an evening. Stage magic sits between fifteen minutes and an hour. The illusion show is deliberately shorter and denser, five to thirty minutes, because that's how big effects work best. Fire performance is shorter again at five to fifteen minutes, which is about right before an audience feels the heat wearing off. The water escape is a single fifteen minute piece. Balloon twisting runs half an hour through to two hours.
