Trumpet player hire in Australia: the complete guide

9 trumpet players across Australia · free to enquire, no account needed

A trumpet is an announcement. Twenty seconds of it stops two hundred conversations dead, which is why it gets booked for arrivals, entrances, award reveals and the moment a ribbon is about to be cut. Very few bookings on this site are about a single instant, but this one often is.

The figures below are live from the trumpet players listed here. The category covers everything from one short fanfare to a full evening of playing, so read what you are actually asking for before comparing numbers.

How much does a trumpet player cost?

The live range by city is in the table below, and it is a wide one for a reason. A brief ceremonial appearance and a three hour performance are both in this category. A player still has to travel, warm up, dress for the occasion and wait for their cue, so a very short booking does not cost a fraction of a long one.

The high end usually means either a long evening or a player doing something specialised: leading a small horn section, playing over a DJ with amplification, or working to a tight script at a corporate reveal with rehearsals attached.

There are not enough listings in any one city to show a useful city price table yet. Check the profiles below for advertised starting prices, or enquire for a quote for your date and venue.

The fanfare booking

This is the classic. A player in formal dress announces the bridal party, the arriving dignitary, the winner or the product, and then steps back. It reads as ceremony in a way that a recorded track never manages, because everyone can see it being made.

The organising is more than it looks. Somebody has to give the cue, the player needs a clear sightline to whoever is running the moment, and the standing position has to be decided in daylight rather than guessed at. Walk it through with the venue and your master of ceremonies beforehand and it lands perfectly.

Playing with a DJ or a band

A trumpet over a DJ set is a different animal from a sax over the same set. It is brighter, sharper and it cuts harder, so it works in short bursts at the peaks rather than as a continuous layer. Used well it can lift a floor in a way little else does. Used constantly it wears a room out.

The same applies to adding a horn to an existing band. Ask whether the player reads written parts, improvises, or both, and whether they have worked with that band before. A horn player dropped into a covers band with no rehearsal and no charts is a gamble you do not need to take.

Volume, rooms and the last post

Trumpet is the loudest instrument in this whole batch and it does not need amplifying in almost any room. In a small space it can be too much, which is why players use mutes, and a good one will bring them without being asked. Say how big the room is when you enquire.

Outdoors is where it shines. Open air, a courtyard, a beach, a paddock, all fine with no power and no PA. It is also the instrument people book for remembrance services and other solemn moments, which players treat with the seriousness those occasions deserve.

Questions worth asking before you book

Is this one moment or a set, and how long is the player on site either way? Who gives the cue and how? Do you need amplification in this space, or mutes? Can you read charts if there is a band involved? And what dress code suits what we are doing?

Dress matters more here than in most categories, because the player is usually visible and formal at the exact moment everybody is looking. Settle it in writing so nobody is guessing.

Booking tips

Rehearse the cue, not the music

The player has the notes handled. What goes wrong is somebody missing the signal, so agree who nods and stand where they can see it.

Short is stronger

A fanfare works because it stops. Resist stretching a ceremonial moment into a set unless the room is built for it.

Tell them the room size

A trumpet in a small function room needs a mute and a sensible corner. A player who knows the dimensions brings the right gear and the right restraint.
