About
Govinda Abbott is a trumpet player for hire in Byron Bay, NSW.
Trumpet, and a long road to get here. Govinda Abbott started jazz early at Newtown School of Performing Arts, went on to study jazz performance at the Sydney Conservatorium, then completed a Masters in jazz and pedagogy in East Germany, living and working there as a musician for fifteen years. Along the way came a stint as head of Brass and Woodwind at the Kathmandu Jazz Conservatory. The playing covers traditional and contemporary jazz in small groups and big bands, with a rich Latin programme and plenty of funk sitting alongside the standards. Recent guest appearances include the Galapagos Duck. Now based in the northern rivers, and no fuss on the day: all the PA gear is provided.

The show
Trumpet, played softly. Govinda Abbott is there to sit underneath a day rather than take it over, so the sound is warm and unhurried and people can still hear each other talk across a table. Think a Byron Bay afternoon that gets gently better as it goes on. Jazz standards, Latin, the occasional bit of funk, all pitched at the volume the room can carry rather than the volume the horn is capable of.
What they perform
All the jazz standards as well as a rich latin programme and many Funk and contempory tunes
