Mulwala and Yarrawonga stare at each other across the water and share everything except a state. A wedding band gives Mulwala as home and a solo singer sits on the Victorian side ten minutes over the bridge, and after that pair the page turns almost entirely Victorian: Cobram, then a block of Wangaratta acts about an hour away. My honest read is that this is a Victorian entertainment market with a New South Wales postcode attached.
That matters less for the music than for the calendar. Cover bands, wedding bands and duos dominate what's in reach, so a reception on the lake has plenty of choice once you accept the drive. But Victoria and New South Wales set public holidays differently, and a Victorian act may price your date as a long weekend when you don't think it is.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Mulwala. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Not in any practical sense. The bridge to Yarrawonga takes a couple of minutes and the Cobram and Wangaratta acts work both banks of the Murray every weekend. The only thing to raise is the date: Victoria has public holidays New South Wales doesn't, so confirm the act isn't pricing your Saturday as a holiday rate.
The number of players and the length of the reception set most of it, and then the highway does the rest. An act from town or Yarrawonga has no drive to charge for; a Wangaratta band is adding an hour each way plus a late run home. Use the from-prices on the cards as the starting point and ask for the travel separately.
Not at the moment on either side of the lake; the closest is out at Wangaratta. That's an hour, which a DJ handles far more cheaply than a band does because there's less gear in the car. If a DJ is the plan for your night, lock one in early rather than assuming you'll find a closer one later.
The Yarrawonga singer is closer to a Mulwala venue than most Mulwala residents' own driveways feel on a hot day. Ignore which side of the bridge an act lives on and just read the distance on the card.
Most of the bands, the jazz band and the DJ within reach are Wangaratta based, about an hour down the road. That's a genuine trip with a trailer, so ask for travel as its own line rather than being surprised by it.
Lake Mulwala fills with boats and holiday houses from Christmas through January, and the local pubs and clubs take the acts with it. A summer wedding or a big birthday wants an enquiry months ahead.
