Maryborough is the central Victorian goldfields town with the railway station too grand for it, and its own entertainment list is one musical soloist. Everything after that comes from the towns around: a tribute band at Clunes, a trumpet player at Maldon, a cover band at Castlemaine, a roving act from Daylesford, and then Bendigo, an hour up the road, which supplies most of the bands and the wedding DJ. Wedding bands, cover bands and party bands dominate the wider mix, which is a fair description of what this district books.
What that means in practice is that a Maryborough booking is almost always somebody's drive. Not a long one by Victorian standards, but a drive, and it's worth naming in the first email so the quote you get is the quote you pay. The one local soloist is the exception and his Saturdays will go early, which is what happens everywhere there's exactly one of something.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Maryborough. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Bendigo sets the going rate, because that's where most of the bands within reach live, and an hour each way down the Pyrenees Highway is either in the price or on the quote as travel. After that it's the ordinary things: how many players, how long they play, and whether the venue has anything resembling a stage. The from-prices on the band cards above are the current starting figures for the goldfields.
Not on this list. The nearest is a wedding DJ in Bendigo, which makes a Maryborough reception with a DJ an hour's booking either way. The other route people take around here is a duo with backing tracks, since duos are well represented in the wider mix and a duo fits a small hall better than a full band and a light rig do.
Working a crowd that's standing rather than sitting: a street festival, a long lunch, the awkward hour between a ceremony and dinner when nobody knows where to be. There's one within reach at Daylesford, about three quarters of an hour away. Tell them the space, the crowd size and whether children are part of it, because the act changes shape considerably depending on the answer.
There's a larger Maryborough in Queensland and both have pages on this site. A few of these acts take bookings interstate, so put the state in your enquiry and save everyone a confused reply.
The old halls and clubrooms around Maryborough, Talbot and Dunolly have hard floors, high ceilings and limited power. Send the act a photo of the room and tell them where the power points are before they quote.
Both have their own pages and between them hold most of the acts you can actually reach from here. Use this page for the distances and those two for the full run of bands and DJs.
