Joondalup is Perth's northern end, and the search ring reaches a long way back down towards the city. So the list below is really two groups at once. There are acts who live up this way, in Joondalup, Currambine, Iluka and Marangaroo, and there are inner Perth acts from Leederville, Northbridge, North Perth and Wembley who happen to sit inside the distance. Treat the Perth ones as local, because to them a Joondalup gig is a run up the freeway and nothing more.
The mix is band-heavy. Cover bands, wedding bands and party bands lead, then duos and a decent run of DJs, with a few surprises scattered through: a stilt walker, a rapper, a psychic. The coast north of Scarborough is wedding country in summer, and a Saturday between November and March is the date every band gets asked about first. Enquire early if that's yours.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Joondalup. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Perth prices, essentially, since half the bands on this list live in Leederville or Wembley and the run up the freeway isn't something they charge for. The variables that matter are lineup size, hours, and whether the reception is at a coastal venue near Hillarys with its own sound or a hall in Wanneroo that needs everything brought in. Use the from-prices on the band listings above as the starting point and ask for the travel shown separately.
The inner-north ones do, and that's most of the pool: from Northbridge or North Perth it's a straight run up the Mitchell Freeway. Acts based south of the river or in Fremantle are a different story, and those are the ones who may add a line for a Joondalup or Yanchep job. Two Rocks and anything past Alkimos should be named in the enquiry, because that's where 'local' stops for nearly everyone.
Four hours is the standard reception block, so most northern-suburbs DJs have a figure for exactly that, and it's usually the from-price you'll see on their listing above. What pushes it beyond that is the extra hour when the speeches run late, a lighting rig for a bigger room, and whether you want them to MC as well. Agree the overtime rate in writing so the last hour isn't a surprise.
Corporate and community events, mostly. A stilt walker works a shopping-centre opening or a school fete, the psychic is a proven hens-night booking, and a rapper suits a youth event or a launch party in a way a cover band won't. They're all cheaper than a band and travel light, so don't skip past them for a party that isn't a wedding.
Perth is just down the freeway and Fremantle isn't much further, so if the list here feels thin for what you want, run the same search from Perth. The Joondalup acts will still turn up in it.
A duo covers a lot of ground at a backyard wedding or a sixtieth in a Joondalup function room: ceremony, dinner, then a louder set with backing tracks. Ask whether they bring their own PA and lights, because plenty of home and community-hall bookings need it.
Put the suburb in the notes, not just Joondalup. Iluka and Tapping are a decent drive apart, and an act pricing the job wants to know which side of the freeway they're heading for.
