One singer lives in Hill Top, and after that every card is a drive. Mittagong's singer is a quarter of an hour down the old Hume, Bowral's kids' costume act, two duos and a singer-songwriter twenty minutes, a country band at Moss Vale and a duo at Robertson further again, and the last two in the ten, a comedy magician and a saxophone act, are Illawarra acts on the far side of the escarpment. Hill Top is where the Southern Highlands start when you come down the Hume from Sydney, and it's also where the Highlands' short list of musicians runs out. Book early. There is no second local.
The village sits high on the ridge between the Hume and the Nattai bush, with Colo Vale, Yerrinbool and Balmoral for neighbours, and a Hill Top event is usually a backyard, a hall or a property with a long driveway. Wollongong's acts are the biggest pool in reach on paper, but they get here up Macquarie Pass or round through Picton, an hour either way, so treat them as travelling acts with the drive on the quote. Picton and Camden's list is the other direction up the Hume and about as close. Bowral's own page has the Highlands wedding depth; this one is for the top end.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Hill Top. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
A ceremony at a Hill Top or Colo Vale property is a solo booking most of the time, the Mittagong singer or one of the Bowral duos, and their from-prices sit on the cards where they've listed one. The extra that Highlands ceremonies add is the cold-weather kit and a battery amp for a paddock with no power, and sometimes a second short set for the drinks afterwards. A Sydney or Wollongong act adds the drive, which for a forty-minute ceremony can be the biggest line on the quote.
Hill Top is the first of the Highlands villages off the Hume, a little over an hour from the inner city, so Sydney acts treat it as an easier run than Bowral or Moss Vale and a good deal easier than the coast. Expect a travel line all the same, and a question about the finish time. For a full band it's the most realistic source, because the Highlands' own list is duos and singers.
There's one at Moss Vale in the ten, half an hour from Hill Top, and a country band on a Highlands property with a fire pit going is a better fit than most cover bands. Ask what they do for the first hour while people are eating, and whether the set leans old country or new. They haven't listed a from-price, so send the date and the room.
Hill Top is ridge country and the cold comes early, so an outdoor set in May needs heaters, a roof and power close to the players. Ask the act whether they've played the Highlands in winter, and where the PA will stand.
Bowral's costume character does Highlands birthdays every weekend and Hill Top is inside that run. For a fifth birthday it's the shortest booking on this page; for anything adult, the Mittagong singer is.
Two of the ten are from the Illawarra, and because Hill Top sits at the northern end, Picton Road is their likely route rather than the pass. It's a road with a reputation in fog and rain, so ask about the finish time and whether they'd rather stay over.
