Ben Malone is a singer for hire in Mittagong, NSW.
A loop pedal, a guitar and a voice, and Ben Malone builds a full-sounding set out of the three. He's based in the Southern Highlands, south-west of Sydney, and he's been gigging for over a decade across cover bands, originals bands and now mostly solo. The song choices run from the 70s to now: Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Michael Jackson, Paul Kelly, Crowded House, Whitney Houston, Dolly Parton. He sings the female-fronted songs as readily as the male ones. Parties, weddings, funerals, restaurants and pubs all get the same treatment. Setup takes 30 to 45 minutes and he brings his own speakers, so all he needs is one powerpoint. He holds a working with children check and public liability insurance.
The show
One player, but the loop pedal does a lot of the heavy lifting, layering parts up until it sounds like more than one person on stage. Ben's guitar and voice carry the rest. He sings songs originally recorded by women as readily as ones by men, which widens the set considerably, and the material stretches from the 70s to now. It means a room of mixed ages tends to hear something they know every few songs.
On the day
Allow 30 to 45 minutes for setup. His speaker system comes with him, so all that's needed from the venue is a single power point somewhere near where he's playing.
