Henley Beach is the western suburbs' beach, and its acts are the city's: the reviewed ten at the top are all based in Adelaide, a straight run west along Henley Beach Road that barely registers as a drive. Cover bands and duos lead the wider pool, then wedding bands, singers, soloists and the party bands Adelaide does well, and a couple of performers on the list give Lockleys as home, which is about as close to the sand as any act gets. So where does Henley get complicated?
In summer, between five and nine. The square at the foot of the jetty and the Esplanade either side of it are where the west comes to eat on a warm evening, the sun goes down straight into the sea, and a ceremony on the sand at half past six is playing to the whole foreshore whether it likes it or not. Parking by the square is gone by late afternoon on a hot Saturday, so an act with a PA needs a drop-off plan; a soloist with a battery rig walks in. For a reception at a beachfront home in Henley Beach South or a room back from the Esplanade, none of that applies, and the duos and cover bands here will treat it as a normal Adelaide night.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Henley Beach. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Time on site and the rig, mainly. A ceremony set with a battery PA, then an hour of drinks music while the photos happen, is the usual shape, and if the same duo carries on into the reception the quote grows with the hours. There's no travel from the city worth naming. The from-prices next to the duos on this page are what they're asking this season.
On the foreshore itself it's a council matter, with permits and sound rules that change by the spot, and a full band on the sand is rarely worth the trouble. The common answer is a soloist or duo for the ceremony and the band in a room or a backyard afterwards. Ask the council before the act, and tell the act what you were told.
Completely; it's a quarter of an hour down Henley Beach Road for most of them, and a summer beach ceremony here is routine work for the singers and duos on this list. The only thing that earns a mention is the square on a hot evening, which is a parking problem, not a travel one. Say the venue and the time and the quote will come back without a travel line.
Near the square in summer, the act's problem is the kerb, not the set list. Agree with the venue or the household where the gear comes in and at what time, and put it in the enquiry.
In December the sun sets late and the ceremony can run to eight; in April it's gone by six. Time the outdoor set to the light, and have the reception room ready for the moment it fails.
The same acts do Grange, one beach north, and West Beach and the river mouth to the south, at the same distance. Name the exact spot, because the square, a home on the Esplanade and a lawn at West Beach are three different set-ups.
