Two rockabilly bands inside ten minutes of each other is not something most towns can say, and Beachmere has one at home and another over at Deception Bay. Around them sit a drag performer at Burpengary East, a DJ at Ningi, a bagpiper, a singer and two face painters through Caboolture and Morayfield, and an eighties act at Redcliffe. Every one of the ten is a Moreton Bay address. Brisbane does not appear at all.
It is a working list rather than a wedding one, which fits the town. Beachmere is flat, quiet and looks out over the mudflats to Bribie, and what gets booked here runs to club nights, fetes, family milestones and parties in a yard. If you want a big-production wedding band you will end up looking towards Brisbane, an hour down the highway, and paying for the trip.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Beachmere. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Rarely. All ten of the nearest acts live around Moreton Bay, from the town itself out to Ningi, Caboolture and Redcliffe, so travel stays out of the conversation for almost anything you want. Head towards the city only when you need a format nobody up here offers, and expect the highway run to show in the price.
The reviews on this site came from archived listings, and the performers working Moreton Bay's clubs and community days were mostly never on them. A blank card means nobody recorded feedback, not that anyone disappointed a crowd. Send two or three of them one identical brief, then weigh up the replies.
Something that works with a crowd moving past rather than sitting still: a face painter, a bagpiper for the opening, a DJ holding the sound together in the gaps, then live music to close. None of that needs a stage. Mention early that everything happens outdoors, and check what each performer needs plugged in.
It suits a club night, a car show or a fiftieth where the crowd grew up on it, and it will not carry a mixed-age wedding on its own. Ask either band how broad their set goes before you assume it does.
The flats here go out a long way and come back, and the wind off them carries sound sideways. Check the tide for your date, set up well above the line, and ask the act what weather cover they need.
For a fete or a birthday, the number of faces an hour decides whether you need one or two of them. Give your child numbers in the enquiry and let them tell you, rather than guessing and running a queue all afternoon.
