Nobody in the closest ten actually lives in Avoca Beach. The nearest are a DJ and an MC two kilometres over the hill at Terrigal, then two singers at Copacabana, a singer and a DJ at Kincumber, a songwriter at Erina and a cover band and a singer at Forresters Beach. So the acts are a headland away rather than in town, which at these distances makes no practical difference at all.
Avoca is a surf beach, a lagoon and a few hundred houses, and the work here is weddings on a lawn above the sand, long summer lunches and birthdays in a backyard. The trade mix underneath the ten leans hard on DJs and cover bands, but the ones physically closest to you are singers and a couple of DJs, which fits the shape of the town better anyway.
Top picks are the nearby performers with the most visible reviews, then rating, then the closest; further afield the closest come first, and premium listings break remaining ties. Distances are straight-line from Avoca Beach. Ask each act whether they travel to your venue and what that costs.
Not in the nearest ten, and I would rather tell you that than dress up a Terrigal act as a local one. The upside is that Terrigal is two kilometres away and Copacabana three, so the difference between local and nearby is a few minutes of driving. Nobody on the first screen has a travel argument worth making.
In practice, no, and most couples end up on a lawn or a deck above the beach instead. There is no power on the sand, wind off the water flattens a small rig, and the beach itself is public. A soloist with a battery setup can work for the vows; the band belongs where there is a plug and a roof.
Further than you would for a winter one, because the Coast fills with Sydney holidaymakers from Boxing Day through January and the local pubs and clubs take the same acts every weekend. A January Saturday wants to be locked in by spring. A Friday, or anything between May and August, is a much easier ask.
Only for something the Coast genuinely does not have. The M1 is an hour or more each way and the drive back after a midnight finish is what an act prices, so a Sydney quote and a Terrigal quote are not comparable until you see the travel separately. Start with the ten here and widen only if none of them fits.
A change coming up this stretch of coast arrives fast and takes a small PA with it. Have somewhere under cover to move to, and ask the act how long a pack-up and shift actually takes them.
With no venue coordinator at a private property, somebody has to start the speeches and get people fed. The MC at Terrigal is the closest act on this page and probably the most useful one for a wedding at a house.
Houses above Avoca sit on steep blocks with stairs from the street and no loading area worth the name. Count the steps, then tell the act, because it changes both their setup time and their willingness.
