About
Kings of Cali is a DJ for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
A DJ and a drummer, playing at the same time, on a full acoustic kit. Kings of Cali formed in the summer of 2020 and built the act around fusing genres and eras into one electronic party set with live drums driving it. Add a saxophone player if you want a third voice in the mix. It works for weddings, corporate nights, festivals and clubs, anywhere the dance floor is the point rather than an afterthought. They're Brisbane based. All they need is a stage or floor space of about 4 by 2 with power to it.
The show
Two performers, one dance floor, and a fairly unusual arrangement: a DJ and a drummer going at once, with the drums played live on a proper acoustic kit rather than triggered pads. So the beat you're hearing is being hit in front of you. If you want another layer on top, a live sax player can join them, and that's the version that tends to lift a room from moving to properly going. Genres and eras get folded into one another rather than kept in separate blocks.
On the day
Give them about 4 metres by 2, either a stage or a bit of floor, and make sure there's power at it. That's the lot. The size matters because it's a full acoustic drum kit rather than an electronic one, so the footprint is real and the sound carries the way an actual kit does. Somewhere with a bit of separation from the nearest dinner table is worth thinking about.
