About
Iffy Pop is a cover band for hire in Bendigo, VIC.
You will not hear Khe Sanh at an Iffy Pop gig. No Jessie's Girl, no Horses, no Brown Eyed Girl either. The Bendigo band built their reputation on the songs you forgot you loved, played with a funky twist and absolutely no backing tracks. A typical night is three sets of 45 minutes or more, opening acoustic and easing into foot-tapping territory before the dancing starts properly. They're multi-instrumentalists, so expect trumpet, trombone, glockenspiel, ukulele, harmonica and melodica to appear in a covers band setup where they normally wouldn't. Love Shack, Come On Eileen, Groove Is In The Heart, Little Lion Man, I Will Survive and plenty more. They can play it subdued if you want, but that's not where their heart is.
The show
Sore feet and a hoarse throat by the end. That's what Iffy Pop are aiming for, and three sets of 45 minutes or more gives them the time to get there. It opens acoustic while the room warms up, eases into the foot tapping stuff, then spends the bulk of the night on dancing and singing. All live, no backing tracks. And you'll see instruments a covers band has no business owning: trumpet, trombone, glockenspiel, ukulele, harmonica, melodica. If you want it kept low key they'll do that. But jumping is where they're happiest.
On the day
Power is the one thing Iffy Pop can't bring themselves. Everything else travels with them, PA and lighting included, so a bare room is no obstacle. If your venue already has a decent house rig they're glad to plug into it rather than double up, though they'll want to know what it is first. A room with a good system saves everyone a load in.
