About
Rough Cut is a country band for hire in Melbourne, VIC.
Five players, four of them singing. That's the thing to know about Rough Cut. Guitar, bass, pedal steel and drums, with four vocalists swapping lead and stacking harmonies through the show, playing nu country from the 90s to now. Around 30 years entertaining audiences Australia wide. The song list is a straight run of the genre's best: Alan Jackson, George Strait, Dwight Yoakam, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, Marty Stuart, Steve Earle, Midland, The Mavericks, Toby Keith, Cody Johnson, Tracy Byrd. Plenty of line dancing opportunities in there. Two guitarists handle the riffs and melodies true to the originals, over a rhythm section known for tight, punchy grooves. PA and lighting available depending on the room.
Watch
The show
Rough Cut give you four vocalists in a five piece band, which is unusual and you hear it straight away. Lead vocals get passed around and the harmonies stack up behind them. Underneath sits pedal steel and lead guitar playing the riffs and melodies the way the originals go, over a rhythm section with tight, punchy grooves. The songs come from the best of the genre, Alan Jackson, George Strait, Dwight Yoakam, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, Midland, The Mavericks. Plenty in there for line dancers, if you've got some in the room.
On the day
The band is two guitarist vocalists, bass and vocals, drums and vocals, plus pedal steel. Outdoors they'll want a playing area safely under cover. Indoors, a basic raised stage does the job. They can supply PA and lighting if your venue hasn't got its own, and whether that's needed depends on room size, expected numbers and how easy the load in is. If the band brings the system, you'll need at least two phases of power to the stage for the band, PA and lights.
Performance options
Rough Cut take single bookings and longer runs, several nights across a festival or a string of venues in one region. For that kind of booking the practical side matters: how many shows, when they fall, whether accommodation and meals are part of the deal, and what the load-in looks like. A flight of stairs changes the plan for a five piece carrying pedal steel and a drum kit, so mention it early.
