About
Acushla is a Celtic band for hire in Tooborac, VIC.
The name comes from a Gaelic phrase meaning pulse of my heart, and that's a fair description of what Acushla play: traditional Irish tunes, jigs, reels and slides, the instrumental music you'd hear around a table at a session in an Irish pub. They're clear about what they're not, too. No Pogues covers and no sung ballads, just the tunes themselves, played informally among the guests or up on stage through a PA. So if your event calls for the real thing rather than pub singalong Irish, this Victorian trio is exactly that. They carry a small PA of their own and can also plug into a venue's system where one exists.
On the day
Acushla carry a small PA and their own gear, which covers most rooms. Running them through a house system instead? Then four microphones and stands, front of house speakers and at least two foldback wedges, plus the microphone leads and two guitar leads. Their preference on mics is three SM57s and one SM58. One last thing that gets forgotten: armless chairs. Playing this music sitting down means elbows need somewhere to go.
