Bluesonic is a blues band for hire in Sydney, NSW.
Rick Lum played bass in the 70s Aussie rock outfit HUSH before he put this four piece together, and the blues he chose to build it around is the old stuff. BB King. Muddy Waters. Junior Wells, Elmore James, T Bone Walker, John Lee Hooker, Little Walter, Willie Dixon. Bo Diddley and Freddie King get a look in, and so do the later torchbearers like Buddy Guy and Stevie Ray Vaughan. It's a straight tribute to the players who wrote the language, done by people who've spent a long time speaking it. Three sets of 45 minutes is the standard shape of the night, and they carry liability insurance. Sydney based.
The show
This is the blues played as tribute, and the names it bows to are the ones who invented the language. BB King and Muddy Waters, the Chicago players, the Texas players, the ones the next generation copied. Bluesonic don't modernise it and they don't apologise for it. What you get is four players who've spent decades on this material treating it with the respect it earned.
