The Balloon Monsters of Twisted Designs is a balloon twister for hire in Brisbane, QLD.

They stand two and a half metres tall, they're built from hundreds of balloons, and yes, they squeak when you squeeze them. The Balloon Monsters rove through a crowd handing out twisted balloons, hugging everyone from babies to grandparents, and posing for photos with anyone who asks. Each monster takes six or seven hours to twist by one person, or about two and a half with two, and they can be built on site or arrive finished. For multi-day events they'll last up to three days with repairs between sets and storage in air conditioning. They handle grass, concrete, stairs and even escalators. Brisbane based, public liability covered. Building space needs to be at least 6m by 3m with power.

The show

Two and a half metres of balloon monster walking through your crowd, giving hugs, posing for photos and shooting twisted balloons out for people to take home. Around 100 balloons an hour go out that way. Each monster is built from more than 600 balloons, all biodegradable natural latex, and they're surprisingly mobile: grass, concrete, stairs, even escalators. For evening events the costumes can be lit from the inside with programmed full colour LED strips, which turns the whole thing into a moving light show. The operators come from busking and live theatre, so working a large crowd is the day job.

On the day

The build needs a clean, controlled space of at least 6m by 3m, ideally air conditioned, and as close to the performance area as you can manage. There's a power outlet needed too, for a small air compressor. Twisting one monster takes about six hours with a single twister, or two and a half hours if two people are on it. Worth factoring into your day: this isn't a fifteen-minute set-up, and where you put them to work determines how far a finished monster has to travel.

Performance options

Book one monster or two, for a single day or across several. The useful part for multi-day events is that a monster only gets built once. Store it in air conditioning between roving sets and it will hold up for three consecutive days, with any repairs done between sets. Roving is done in one-hour sets, typically three of them across a day, and they can either be built on site in front of the crowd or arrive already finished.
