About
Ali Pickup is an acrobat for hire in Newcastle, NSW.
Aerial hoop is the speciality: bendy tricks, fast spins and genuine feats of strength, well off the ground. Ali Pickup is a Newcastle-based aerial artist and circus performer who danced through her teens, started training aerial arts in 2015 and began performing with Circus Avalon in 2018. Since going freelance she's appeared in cabarets including After Dark Burlesque, OMGWTF and Candyland, and performed at events across Australia. For venues without rigging she brings her own freestanding aerial rig; it needs four metres of ceiling height and a four-metre square of floor. Juggling, LED and ground-based circus acts round out the options.
Watch
The show
Ali builds the show with you rather than arriving with a fixed routine. Tell her what the event is, what the space allows and what you're picturing, and the act gets shaped to match. Questions get answered before anything is locked in, so you'll know what's happening in the room well ahead of the day.
On the day
For smaller acts Ali brings her own freestanding aerial rig, which is the answer for venues with nothing to hang from. It needs four metres of ceiling height and four metres square of clear floor, and two to four people to put it together. Bigger, more elaborate performances are a different job: those need rigging to a ceiling or truss done by a professional rigger, arranged separately. Check your ceiling height early, because it decides which of the two you're planning for.
