Melvis the Elvis is a tribute singer for hire in Albury, NSW.
Melvis the Elvis doesn't do the all-night slog. He arrives, the white jumpsuit appears, and 30 minutes later the room is still talking about it. The set is built on the big band Elvis numbers plus the standards: That's Alright Mama, Hound Dog, Heartbreak Hotel, A Little Less Conversation, Viva Las Vegas, Kentucky Rain, Suspicious Minds, Can't Help Falling In Love. Afterwards he sticks around for photos and a dance. Fifteen years doing this, including a stint as the resident Elvis at Movie World on the Gold Coast and recognition at the Parkes Elvis Festival. Setup is a portable speaker and a radio mic, so he can appear from nowhere. Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson sets can be added after a costume change, and he'll do singing DJ work across a whole evening. Based in Albury.
The show
Half an hour, and it lands like an ambush. The jumpsuit walks in, the backing track kicks, and whatever was happening in the room stops happening. That's the whole idea. It's a short, loud, deliberately over the top Elvis set rather than a background-music sort of booking, so it works best dropped into the middle of a party when things need a lift. Guests get pulled into it too. And once the last number's done he's still around for photos and a dance, which is usually where the phones come out.
On the day
Barely anything. A portable speaker and a radio mic is the entire rig, which he carries in himself, so there's no stage build and no wrangling of cables across your venue. That's partly a practical thing and partly the point. Because the gear is so small he can be out of sight until the moment the set starts, then simply walk into the room. Handy if you're running the whole thing as a surprise for someone.
Performance options
The core booking is 30 minutes of Elvis. From there you can stack on a 30 minute Willie Nelson set, a 30 minute Johnny Cash set, or both, each arriving after a costume change so the character properly resets between them. Every session is sung live over backing tracks rather than mimed. If you'd rather he stayed for the full night, he works as a singing DJ as well, so the tribute sets can sit inside a whole evening of music instead of being the one short spot.
