About
Genes, lifestyle and fun is a technical speaker for hire in Sydney, NSW.
Dr Judy Ford ran genetics laboratories for around 25 years, published widely, and gave interviews to the BBC, CBC and NBC along the way. Five years followed doing speaking work and acting as an expert in legal matters, then she went back to the University of South Australia, where her job was teaching PhD students how to explain science well. Her talks cover natural fertility, reducing cancer risk, breaking cycles of stress, optimising health, and stories from a working scientist's life, including Chernobyl five years on. Sessions can be pitched general, or narrowed to a specific cancer, or split male-only and female-only. Humour does a lot of the work here, particularly on the harder subjects. Judy speaks to conferences, community audiences and support groups, and asks for a good projector and screen.
The show
Dr Judy Ford spent about 25 years running genetics laboratories, published widely through that time, and picked up international attention along the way, including interviews with the BBC, CBC and NBC. Five years of speaking and legal expert work followed, then a return to the University of South Australia teaching PhD students how to explain science properly. What a room gets is someone experienced and well spoken, with a sense of humour she uses to lighten even the hard subjects. Audiences of all ages and backgrounds take to her.
On the day
A good projector and a screen sized to the room. Where the acoustics are poor, or some of your audience have trouble hearing, add a microphone and amplification. A table is useful too if there are books to display. Judy will work with what your venue has, so tell her what's already in the room when you enquire.
