About

Rhythm Capital is a swing band for hire in Canberra, ACT.

Swing, played properly. Rhythm Capital work through the golden age material and out the other side: Louis Armstrong, Chick Webb, Artie Shaw, Count Basie. The setlist runs deep, with A Foggy Day, All of Me, Bye Bye Blackbird, Honeysuckle Rose, Fever, C Jam Blues and Down by the Riverside among the hundreds on hand. Swing dancers get what they need from it. So do parties where nobody knows the steps and the toes start tapping anyway. The band turns up dressed for the occasion and set up before your guests arrive. Five pieces for a party, or stripped back to four, three or two when you want it in the background. They need power and about five metres square. Their own sound rig covers a room of around 100.

Watch

The show

The band turns up dressed for the occasion and is set up and ready before your first guests arrive, which is a small courtesy that says a lot about how the rest of the night will go. Their sound rig comfortably covers about 100 people, and stretches further than that when the music is sitting in the background rather than driving a dance floor. Swing dancers get material they can actually dance to. Everyone else just ends up tapping along.

On the day

Power, and roughly five metres by five of floor. That's the whole list. The band carries its own sound rig, which covers a room of about a hundred people comfortably, and stretches past that when the music is sitting behind conversation rather than driving a dance floor. Nothing to organise, nothing to hire, no technician standing around waiting.

Performance options

Five pieces is the party version. Strip it back to four, three or two and the same repertoire turns into background music, which suits a dinner or a cocktail hour better than a full band ever will.
