About
Sophia Berlyn is a singer for hire in Newcastle, NSW.
Sophia Berlyn works the Newcastle and Hunter circuit, solo or as a duo, across weddings, restaurants, pubs and function rooms. Pop, rock, country and indie, all put through an acoustic filter with her own spin on the arrangement. She paces a night properly too. The early sets stay relaxed while people are eating and talking, then the energy climbs as the room fills out. Landslide, Riptide, Skinny Love, Scar, Romeo and Juliet, Dancing in the Dark, and a Civil Wars reading of Billie Jean all turn up. Ask and she'll drop some of her own songs in. Bring a power point and a couple of metres of flat ground, and she brings the rest.
The show
Acoustic covers, drawn from pop, rock, country and indie, with the arrangements shaped to guitar and voice. The opening stretch stays deliberately easy while people are still finding their seats and talking over the top of each other. From there Sophia lifts it, song by song, until the later part of the night has some push behind it. She writes her own material as well, and if you'd like a couple of those worked into the running order, just say.
On the day
Sophia turns up with every piece of gear she needs. From your side it comes down to one or two power points and about two to three square metres of level ground to work on. Outdoors is fine, though have a plan B under cover in case the weather turns, since guitars and speakers do not enjoy rain.
