Mr Baritone is a singer for hire in Brisbane, QLD.
Matty Bateson has been gigging since 1999, and Mr Baritone is what he does with a warm, powerful low voice, an acoustic guitar and a loop pedal. Fifties through to the nineties is his patch, and his Johnny Cash and Pearl Jam covers are the ones people mention afterwards. The full repertoire runs wide: Top 40, pop, rock, funk, reggae, country, folk, soul, gospel and blues, with the odd original slipped in. Cold Chisel, Bon Jovi, Amy Winehouse, Ben Harper, Australian Crawl. He can play it quiet enough for a restaurant or a wedding ceremony, or push it up for a crowd that wants to sing. Drum backing tracks are an option, and so is a second player as Mr Baritone Duo. He brings his own sound and stage lighting.
The show
Matty Bateson has a low, warm, powerful voice, and he pairs it with acoustic guitar and a loop pedal. The repertoire is deliberately wide. Top 40 and pop, rock and funk, reggae, country and folk, soul, gospel, blues, plus older traditional classics, with the occasional original slipped in. He specialises in the 50s to the 90s, and it's the Johnny Cash and Eddie Vedder covers people tend to mention afterwards. Quiet enough to sit behind a restaurant service or a wedding ceremony, loud enough when the room wants to sing. Gigging since 1999, with public liability insurance current and gear tag-tested.
On the day
Sound production and stage lighting can both be provided, so the venue doesn't need a rig. For space, allow a stage or floor area of at least 3m wide by 2m deep for the solo set. Book the duo with a drummer and that goes to 3m by 3m. Drum backing tracks are also an option if you want the fuller sound without the second player.
