He's a guitarist and singer whose repertoire runs from 60s blues to modern rock, country and pop, and the sample list gives you the idea: Santana, Pink Floyd, James Brown, Talking Heads, Bob Marley, the Doobie Brothers. Decades of touring Australia, the Americas, Asia and Europe taught him to read a room and adjust. He's also a live sound engineer, so the technical side gets the same attention as the setlist. The show
Greg mixes the desk as well as he plays, and that changes the night more than you'd think. Levels get set properly, and when a piece of gear misbehaves he sorts it quietly while the room carries on unaware. He's a multi-instrumentalist, so the material moves without anyone standing around retuning. The manner is calm and courteous, the equipment is good, and he'll actually answer your emails. What you get out of it is an audience that wants another set.
On the day
A solo spot needs roughly three metres by three, more once it's a duo or a full band. Outdoors, that space has to be covered. Enough power to run the rig, and if the venue has its own gear he'll want the details early: desk size, speaker specs, stage dimensions. One request that isn't technical but matters just as much, no televisions running behind the performance area.
Performance options
Four sizes, same guitarist. Greg on his own is the smallest version. One more player makes it a duo, another makes a trio, or take it out to six musicians, which brings in a female singer along with keys and harmonica. He'll take on MC duties as well. And when you want the room to stay lively through the breaks, he'll DJ between live sets instead of letting it go quiet.
