About
Bev Whittles is a singer for hire in Ryde, NSW.
Nearly 200 songs sit on the request list, and Bev Whittles will play the ones your guests actually want. Guitar and vocals, sixties through to now, drifting between easy listening, Aussie pub rock and the singalongs everybody knows. Landslide, Khe Sanh, Sweet Caroline, Psycho Killer, a fair swag of Paul Kelly. Three to four hours, played well and kept at a volume that lets people talk. As a duo, Paul adds harmonica, and he plays it with a lightness closer to a violin than a blues harp. That's the surprise most rooms don't see coming. Set-up needs are simple: a power point, somewhere to park, and not too many stairs. Public liability insurance included.
The show
Three to four hours of songs almost everybody in the room will recognise, sung properly and pitched at a level that lets your guests keep talking. Bev's view is that the night belongs to the people at it, not to the person with the guitar. So the material bends towards what your crowd likes rather than what she feels like playing. That's a small distinction and it changes the whole feel of a function. Requests are part of it, and the list she can draw on is long.
On the day
A power point, a parking spot, and stairs kept to a minimum. Gear has to come in from the car, so a long climb turns a quick load-in into a slow one. Mention it in advance if your venue has a few flights and it can be planned around.
