A loop pedal changes what one person on a guitar can do. Aljohn builds his songs in layers, live, stacking rhythm and harmony under acoustic versions of Ed Sheeran, John Legend, Bruno Mars and Coldplay. He's a Sydney singer and guitarist who plays weddings, markets and private events, happy to take song requests ahead of time and shape the set to the mood, romantic or upbeat. He brings all his own sound gear, needs only a flat two-metre square to set up, and can even play outdoors without power thanks to a portable power station. Sets run from one to two hours.
The show
The loop pedal is what makes this worth watching rather than just hearing. He arrives early with his own gear, sets up, and then builds each song in layers as he plays, so one guitar and one voice fill out more than they should. The set gets shaped to your event beforehand, romantic, laid back or up tempo, and he's happy to take requests in advance. Easy to talk to in the lead-up, too.
On the day
All the gear is his, sound system and loop rig included. A power outlet is the usual ask, though he can play outdoors or in venues without power using a portable power station. He needs a flat, safe patch of about 2m x 2m. Any venue restrictions worth knowing about, tell him ahead of time so he can plan around them.
Performance options
The one hour booking suits a ceremony, a cocktail hour or a smaller gathering, and includes the loop pedal setup, professional sound and a set list picked for the mood of the day. The two hour version is the one most weddings, birthdays and private parties take, with the same full rig and room for your own song requests. Longer sets, multiple performance slots across a day or something else entirely can be put together on request.
