The Oz Rock Show is GK Band's tribute to Australian pub and stadium rock, built around the songs that filled the airwaves before anyone thought to preserve them. Chisel, Matt Finish, Ian Moss, Renee Geyer, Joe Camilleri, Healing Force. Their set runs through Deep Water, Tucker's Daughter, I Am An Island, Come Said The Boy and Heading In The Right Direction, and there's room to add requests to the program if you tell them early. It's loud, guitar-led and unashamedly nostalgic. Sets run one, two or three hours. They'll want three to four hours before the gig for load-in and sound check, and there's a saving if your venue already has a PA.
The show
The Oz Rock Show is what GK Band do, and the name is honest about it. Australian rock from the years when it owned the radio, played loud and played straight. Cold Chisel and Ian Moss, Richard Clapton, Doug Parkinson, Matt Finish, Renee Geyer, Joe Camilleri, Healing Force. The set leans on deep cuts as much as the songs everyone knows, which is the point of it, since a fair few of these got quietly dropped from the playlists and deserve better. Glenn Kleesh and Gordon Gunn front it with David Richardson on drums, and guests come in depending on the show. Tell them early what you want and they'll shape the program, the personnel and the presentation around it.
On the day
Give the band three to four hours of access before the gig starts so the PA goes in and gets sound checked properly. If your venue already has a PA installed, say so when you enquire, because it changes what the booking involves. The other thing: if the crew and band are on site for more than two or three hours, a meal from the venue is expected, along with a small drinks rider.
